RECKON

This handsome boy is all heart! Reckon is a 7 year old smooth coat, tri color, 40 lb border collie. He looks up at you with all those cute freckles on his nose with a “pet me, hug me, play with me, tell me what you want” look! He wants to be with you and do everything you do. He is a purebred border collie that was raised on a farm but got too intense with livestock. He was adopted to a wonderful pet home that took him hiking, to the beach, and on some amazing adventures. Turns out that he’s noise and thunderstorm sensitive and when they had to return to work away from home, it was best for Reckon not to spend all day in a crate while they were gone. This dog is very smart and has so much to give, living in a crate is not what was wanted for him.

Here are just some of his good traits: Loves to snuggle, loves to give hugs, loves his toys, loves food, loves life, and loves people! Great toy drive and will retrieve anything you ask him to. VERY smart! He enjoys learning new things, new tricks, and figuring out puzzle toys. Loves attention from anyone, he’s good with kids, too! (We always recommend that kids be supervised around border collies.) Does well in group settings. He gets along well with dogs as long as they don’t act aggressive toward him, he doesn’t start anything but doesn’t back down. Reckon is a very obedient dog; he knows lots of commands and tricks, has a great recall, is food motivated, and toy motivated. He loves to ride in the car and go places.
Reckon loves to go hiking, go to the beach, walking, go riding on a 4-wheeler, and go anywhere you go. Reckon is a great buddy, companion dog, and a loyal boy.

Now, not every dog is perfect. Reckon’s main issue is he has become fearful of thunderstorms, fireworks, and gunshots. Reckon is housebroken and trustworthy loose inside, unless he hears loud noises and no one is home. He panics and has destroyed things trying to get away from the noise. He is crate trained but will dig and dig at the plastic pan and has cut his feet doing so. At his foster home, he has a heavy-duty crate with “Trex” boards that he can’t dig at and break. If his foster mom knows there’s a storm approaching, she can give a calming medication that works for him.

Reckon is a wonderful, calm dog inside that still wants his play time outside – walks and playing ball, He can be outside alone and fine with toys. No separation anxiety.  If he’s around another dog that is excited, he can get wound up, too. He usually grabs a toy in his mouth and follows behind the other dog.

Reckon is looking for a home where someone wants a great companion dog to be with them, do things with them, travel, hike, or hang out with them. Someone that works from home or even a retired person would be a great match. He’s such a good boy with just a few quirks!
